Hi,my little brother has a 89 f250 light duty with a 302 in it. A while back it wouldnt run at all so we replaced all three pumps, and filter and its run pretty good up until a few weeks ago. It has gotten an nansty miss so he and a friend replaced the plugs and wire and its still missing. We were riding down the road today and was slowing down and it cut off but it fired right back up. Also the rpms seem to fluctuate a bit. Would this still be a fuel problem or in the fireing. Im not asking for anyone to give a miracle just thought maybe someone else has dealt with these engines more than me. I've always had diesels and im not much on a gas engine(no how that is,not knocking a gas by any means). Im figuring on changing the coil and electronic ignition but wondering if anyone else has any ideas on what else to check or replace. I really appreciate anyone who can chime in with any help. Thanks.
I don't know if I'd go as far as changing the entire ignition...I think your timing might be off and maybe you need to check the gap on the spark plugs. I don't know if you checked this but the fuel filter might be clogged, or maybe a faulty distributor. But thats what I would check, plugs, distributor, you already checked the wires and also check the fuel filter...happy hunting. Mike
