I have a chance to get an unused universal mount flex a lite monster e fan. it will be going on a 95 f250 5.8. it is thermostaticly controlled with the ac relay, but it does not have variable speed control. Should I bother with this older model or should I just spend the cash and buy the newest model with the VSC? Thanks.
my reason for doing this is install is to hopefully gain some gas milage out of it.
the 260 model is dual 14" rated at 5200 cfm, as far as I know it is the same as the newer 290 model without the variable speed control.
flex a lite does offer the VSC unit seperately, has anyone put this on an existing fan? was it a pain? a better question might be if I actualy need the variable speed at all? any info is appreciated. thanks
I use the VSC on my 13.5" dual puller (FAL-295) and it works great. It slowly ramps the speed up so there isn't as much strain on your electrical system. It also doesn't run at 100% if it doesn't have to. The 295's I run can usually cool the motor/radiator down at only 60% speed. If you do decide to use the VSC then i would recommend ditching the little fuse holder they give you, and go with a good 30amp automotive circuit breaker instead. The fuse holders have been known to cause fires under the hood.
