Trouble code 18

My 1992 2.3L Ranger is giving trouble code 18, loss of TACH signal to ECA, or DIS fault. What should be checked and how?

Don't hold me to this, but I swear code 18 was the code that meant the beginning of the end for the TFI module.

Most of the tests for a code 18 require a breakout box but running through the TFI troubleshooting link in the teck info thread at the top of this forum would be a good place to start.

I had the same code on my 91 Ranger back in January. The problem turned out to be the Ignition Control Module.

The ICM isn't the only thing that will cause this code, so I would still research the link Ken00 gave you.

Opps, just noticed you have a 2.3 not a 2.9, you need to run the pinpoint test not the TFI testing, let me know if you need them, I can email you a copy.
