trailer wiring???

trailer wiring???
Hello to all this is my first post, please be patient.
I own a 2005 Ford Escape, today I had a frame hitch installed. They were going to wire it up but said it had a plug for a factory wire kit and to just go by the dealer and pick one up. It is on back order from Ford (long wait). So I called up U-haul and they said they had one. I picked it up (they were closing and unable to install) and I took it home. My question is simple how do I hook it up. I was going to tap off the factory plug that is there but the hitch guy said it was dead (no power). Coinsidently the wiring kit is the type that runs a wire from the battery to a (converter?) box. The wires then tap into the existing wiring. I could get it hooked up if I could find out how to get power to that factory plug. I looked at the fuse diagram and saw nothing there about it. Help please as the family wants to ride the jet ski tomorrow. And thanks in advance.
