tranny leak

tranny leak

I have a 91 superduty with a 7.3 auto trans truck has 160000 miles and tranny was rebuilt aprox 80000 miles ago trans has as worked perfect and never leaked a drop. a few months back i had to replace the flywheel no problem but since than i have this trans leak that sometimes doesnt leak for a week or so or like today blows 3 qts in 100 miles.i removed bell housing inspection plate and when idleing i could see tranny oil coming down from ? on the side by the starter couldnt see where from but look to be up high any body have any ideas??? thanks for anything at all.

Just a guess but I would think that the fluid is leaking from the torque converter seal. When you replaced the flywheel did you remove the torque from the trans. shaft? If you did it is easy to nip the seal when putting it back in place. Also I assume you do not overfill the trans. as this could cause what you describe.

No I did not remove the converter and i fill it to where it says on dip stick.....just thought of something ill check to see if dip stick tube is all the way in...if not and it up a little that would over fill when on the marks

Check the trans lines to the rad they could have a wear hole...my 2cents.
