i need help on the quick. i have a single wheel rear end on a 350 that just lost its pinion seal again. i took it to the mechanic and he is now blaming the pinion bearing, funny that he didnt see that 2 months ago when he changed the pinion seal the first time. now he wants to replace axel shafts, bearings, and seals. now i will agree with the bearings and the seals, but the axle shafts just dont seem right. some help please, i am going to see him in the morning. thankyou in advance,
matt
Bearings, yes, probably all of them due to metal in the oil, even the wheel bearings..
Seals, yes they are cheap while it is apart.
Ring gear and pinion, possibly if it had a lot of strange wear from a bad pinion bearing or metal in the oil.
Axles, they are hard to mess up.
I exploded a Lock Rite locker in mine.
Ring gear and pinion were trashed.
All the bearings in the axle housing were trashed.
Crush leaves were trashed.
Axles were fine.
In fact they were the only moving parts in the housing that were OK.
When I do break something, I do it good.
