today i was driving down the road in a 87 f250/350 and had the radio on no ac going and windows down and all of a sudden smoke starts to pour out of the dash i cut the truck off and pull off the road and look for the burnt wire but couldnt find it..got home started to tear apart and found the wire its a black with a green strip wire but we cant find were it goes? does anyone happin to know were this wire would go to or have a site with the wiring? the wire looks like it went to the little plastic peace that pluged into the switch u turn the lights on with.. any help would be nice..this is on a diesel 6.9 motor
The LT GRH / BLK wire starts from the main light switch @ the dimmer and out to the high beam indicator it also ties into the left / right head lamps and if equiped the day daytime running module pre 90 ( late year production 89 ) and 90 - 91 i hope this info helps you out
ok we got to the wires its 2 thicker black wires with the green stripe and then they go to a lil connector and connect to one smaller wire...never mind the going to the lil grey box thing b/c we cant find anywere were it would plug in at..it looks like the wire looped??? this wire is 2 big black ones with the green stripe that go into one smaller one that is black with green stripe....were still wondering were they go jack are the wires i just described the one ur talkin about?
According to the Haynes manual, and the schematic for 87 to 89 Bronco/f-series trucks, there are two grounds colored Black/light-green attached to the electronic control assembly, that is your computer, at pins 40 and 60. These wires seem to go directly to the battery negative terminal. This sounds serious, you may want to replace them asap.
How bad is the corrosion around your negative battery terminal and associated wires?? That is probably were the problem started, you may have a ground wire that is eaten by corrosion and can't handle the current any longer. As the wire gets thinner and thinner, its resistance increases, causing higher and higher current (amps) thru the wire.
Then one day...snap, crackle, POP! Good Luck
this is a diesel and doesnt have a computer engine is the 6.9 well i guess today it went snap crackle pop b/c there was so much smoke i though the truck was on fire..it todally friend the wireif we knew were the wire runs after it turns into one we could run a new wire but we dont know were it connects..i can snap some pics if that would help? thanks for all ur help

My Bad. I see the last line of your post says diesel, I should have read it carefully.
Another section of the schematic has a blk/lt-grn coming off pin A2 of the ignition switch that feeds the wiper washer switch directly.
Also, I think that wire feeds fuses 6 and 11-both 15A, and fuse 14-30A, fuse 17-20A.
The Blk- Lt-grn wire feeds a couple of major circuits. At least make sure the fuses I listed have the correct rating.
Note: the schematic seems to be calling fuse 14 a "circuit breaker" They used a "CB" as the symbol for #14. 14 looks like it is feeding the power windows, if you have them.
Fuse 6 has electronic shift control module and cruise control amp.
fuse 11 has radio and interior lights/headlight switch
fuse 17, the section of wiring going to it, is specifically labeled "diesel" looks like it controls anti-lock brakes.
Sorry if this doesn't help, I'm just throwing stuff out wildly.
Bensr, one other problem, you may have posted in the wrong area. Although your truck is an 87 and general questions about 87 thru 96 are entered in this forum, your question is specifically about electrical wiring. The moderator was trying to give you a heads up, and has asked you to read the website guidelines, so that you can get help in the appropriate forum.
If your post disappears, and you are lucky it hasn't, it will probably show up in the electrical wiring forum, which happens to be a little further down the list.
BTW, The Haynes manual shows a decent schematic of your wiring, that is what I am using, it might set you back about 17 or 18 bucks ,but it is helpful.
i know i put one in the electrical forum too b/c i wonted more people to see it quicker b/c this is a daily driver car and needs to be fixed to get to work..im sorry you can delete this one thanks for all the help
