Magnaflow Minus Cat
Magnaflow Minus Cat
I bit the bullet & finally removed my OEM muffler and cat & installed a Magnaflow 7" round, 30" long with 4" in/out muffler(#12773). I had about 3 feet of 4" exhaust pipe welded onto the front of the muffler to where the cat was located. I kept the regular exhaust pipe connected to the turbo.
Results:
1. More throaty sound when starting and at idle.
2. More turbo whistle/whine.
3. Loss of hesitation on acceleration from a start. (Previously, I had a slight hesitation on take off at a stop light)
4. Slightly more cabin noise when accelerating, but no increase in cabin noise while driving down the interstate at 80 mph. Might even be quieter. This engine just purrs at 80 mph.
5. No complaints from the wife about it being louder (made the change without telling her. )
6. Cost: $200 at my local muffler dealer.
7. Fuel economy: to be determined.
8. Glad I did it.
