Hear again...I'm not a body man....but I would leave the cab on. Once you get the bed off, if you look under the back edge of the cab....you'll see the cab mounts. I would use those to measure from and square up.
Give me a little while on double checking that measurement...I need to wait for someone to get home to hold one end of the tape for me.

OK, your gonna need a really flat concrete slab to work on.......measure from the cement to the bottom of the frame where your going to cut it before you cut it.....make sure the height is the same before you drill and bolt it (weld if your confident of your welding)
Remember, your not only worried about the length, it needs to be square and in line horizontaly as well, if one frame rail has a sag or rise, your never going to get things to line up and it prolly won't drive well.

Hey, 3 of 7 is right....make sure to measure everything...and personally, I'd measure several times just to make sure.

Short Bed

If it is a highboy, I am looking to convert mine back to a long box because the people that own the truck I just bought cut the frame on it and changed it to a short box.

Sorry, not adding anything here, but I am curious and have a question. Why do people want to make a long bed in to a short one ? To me, a work truck is best suited with a 8 ft bed and they look good too. Does this mean the popularity of short beds mean people are wanting to make show trucks of them only ?

I did mine because it's way better for off roading...
Ahem, I also did it because I had a really nice F100 shortbox 2X4 with a zillion miles on it and I picked up a newer F250 4X4 with a trashed body for a song.

Hey Dave...you better do some wheel base researching. I was going to take a super cab short wheel base body and put it on a single cab long wheel base frame at one time, and it turns out the there was (I think) 2 inches difference in the wheel base.

I kinda thought somthing like that would happen.I have not decided what i was going to do with the cab.I got it because the thing was in primo condition,no rust or dents and no bondo! I probley have enough parts to build three trucks.

Thats a sweet cab....I'd definately do something with it...

I'm wondering, if in fact there is only a 2" wheelbase difference for the reg cab longbox frame, would it be possible to relocate your rear spring hangers and shackle mounts to accomodate? The very rear of the frame should be able to be lengthened/shortened the same amount so your bumper would fit....
Maybe time for a rolled rear pan?

Dave, is it one of those 4 door cabs, or just a super cab with 2 doors?
My Haynes manual is showing the folowing wheel bases, but I'm not sure out side of the 117" wheel base goes to which cab and bed combination.
117"....I know for a fact that this is a regular cab short wheel base.
133".... I 'm pretty sure this is the regular cab with long wheel base bed.
138".....I think this is the extended cab with a short wheel base bed.
155".....This one should be an extended cab with a long wheel base bed.
They did make a cab that has 4 doors, because I have seen one, but I don't have a clue as to what the wheel base on that truck is. I'm thinking the 4 door cab was only available for F 350's, but I'm not sure. Do you have any type of extended cab frame?

Its just the two door supercab.I think all i have of any length is a standerd cab longbed frame from a four by four. There is a guy that lives down the road from me that has a f350 crewcab longbed,i think its fourwheel drive but not sure.its sitting in his field .

Dave,
Take some measurements just for grins....you never know what might work out. If your long wheel base frame is just a rolling frame, measure from the fron cab mounts to the back cab mounts on the super cab, then measure from the front cab nounts back to where the cab mounts would be if you put the super cab on it. Make a mark, and then see how much frame you have left to put a bed. I hope all this makes sense.
