I have tried everything in my power to get the hood to close and it will not I have tried every angle and it keeps hanging up on the bottom of the airbox tray...I removed all teh plastic and took the battery out and now there is no way to hold the battery in place because the hold downs are part of the air box...please help if you have had the same prob or have a solution....filter is monsterous and I woud really like to make it work.....but I need to get it down another inch or so and still have a way to hold the battery in
Thanks
I have an '02 and mine fit perfectly. I left the battery tray in place, and only took out the airbox assembly. There is a lip which the edge of the filter needs to sit in on that tray close to the fenderwell in order for it to fit properly You'll see what I mean when you look at the tray, there are "holes" along the bottom of it, my filter edge rests up in one of them. Just wiggle it around a bit and you'll see it set in there. It is a close fit, but it will work. I think the first time I installed mine I kept lowering the hood little at a time until I thought it would work. The intake side of the filter will sit higher, so don't be alarmed.
2000 with a 4" long piece of 4" dia exhaust pipe between hose and filter but most of the length was inserted inside the hose. Fits just fine but will be adding battery cover back in for cool air flow to filter from front improvement.
ok heres my prob I took the battery cover off and that was ok then I took the battery out and the entire bottom piece of plastic is one piece.....the part under the battery is connected to the part where the stock air box sits and I can get it down any further.
Well, I was able to go back out and finish the job after I was sure there was no cutting involved. I did not use any 4" PVC or exhaust piping, but did it Kwik's way and stretched the rubber ducting over the filter's neck. Cleaned both sides of where they fit very carefully to insure maximum friction between them (harder to get on that way), but I'm pretty sure that the filter will not ever slip out of the duct. I just added a short heater hose clamp (after straightening it out) to the stock clamp and it fit nicely. Too bad Ford's OEM clamp isn't just a 1/2" longer.
The difference is ever so slight, but my filter doesn't touch my inner fender lip. There's a little more than two inches there.
Buckshot,
All the plastic under the filter box is left intact.
All this gave me the opportunity to clean and service my left battery, too. Needed about 1/4" of distilled water in each cell.
Big Red,
Does your coolant filter location preclude the use of the "outside-the-belt" upper radiator hose? Looks like there would not be room for it with the filter there.
