10k Mod

I have had my PS Ex for over a year now, and after reading some of the advice on here decided to do the 10k mod. First let me say... I love it! Could definately feel a little more on the low end and I personally like the rough idle (it kindof 'lopes' like a gasser with a big cam), my wife even likes the sound and the added get up and go! Some have said here that I would see a slight increase in the mileage also.
Now on to my question.... I know that everyone has had their problems with the overhead MPG reader, but up until now mine has seemed to be very accurate (usually within .1-.2 mpg). Now it took a pretty good jump after doing the 10k mod. Should doing this mod effect how the ECM is calculating the mileage??
The mod is pretty new to me, and I haven't had the chance to run through a full tank to calculate by hand.

It seems odd that these 5K and 10K mods would increase your mileage since these mods trick the system into dumping more fuel.

Is that what it really does? Dump more fuel? From what I read here it just increases the HPOP pressure which increases the "shot" of fuel. I dont think that it is actually lengthening the duration that fuel is being injected. Am I wrong on this one?

Just about anything that modifies the fuel, timing, etc. will screw up that trip computer. With my Superchips Microtuner set on performance......out on the highway, it tells me that I'm getting 28 MPG.....don't I wish! After you mod....about the only useful information that you will be getting out it will be which way your going.......all bets are off on the rest of it.

In many cases it can increase MPG, mostly depends on your right foot. Around town milage for my truck increased by a little over 1 mpg. I haven't had a chance to really check highway milage yet since I blew up my hpop o-ring on my last trip. My trip meter was reset and I lost the milage. Bleh.

I'll take my best guess on the overhead console, I'm sure Wildbill might chime in since he knows more. Speed, rpm's, and engine load are all taken into consideration when the overhead console projects MPG. Now when you are towing obviously the engine is under a greater load and it shows on the reading. Put in a 10K mod and drive it around, and your foot is not in the pedal as much, so in part I would suspect that the engine is under less of a load and is reflected in the MPG display.

With mine turned on the low setting, my pedal is still very sensitive and just a light touch and I'm off and running. When I flip it off it feels like the engine is trying to work harder, like I've got a load behind me or something.

There's my thought for a penny.

I do know this - I am not towring anything right now at the moment and I hardly touch the pedal and I am off. So far I haven't done any highway driving with it since the 10k mod, but have done some light city driving (not very many lights and alot of 40-45 mph roads) with a light foot. If I were to believe any of what the overhead says... I have gained about 3mpg. I guess the proof will be shown over the next few tanks

Well, with an increase in the 'shot', what is meant by that? Increase in volume being shot? I understood that the 5K mod for example tricks the computer into thinking the pressure is dow by about 200psi hence the computer jacks up the pressue to what it thinks it's supposed to be which in turn increase the volume being discharged in the shot, no? If that is the case, then an increase in volume of fuel per shot would mean an increase in fuel usage which in turn means a decrease in fuel economy, no?

Just my $.02

I'm not sure if it actually sprays more fuel at one time or if it simiply changes the spray pattern slightly. I tend to think it merely changes the spray pattern.

I lost 1 mpg with the 10k (computer said I gained 8 or so). I have enough low end power so I took it back off after about a month. I kept it in case I want to put it back on someday.

Joe.....was that because your foot got heavier, or was your driving pretty much the same?

The first week, maybe. After the first week I went back to babying it (son says I drive like an old man). I try to drive it for mileage. Bring it up to speed slow and try not to have to slam on the brakes. People hate to follow behind me
