Our PSD's have two batteries. Can anyone with a Ford wiring diagram for these trucks tell me how they are connected? Are they simply paralleled? Is there some kind of battery isolator, allowing some parts of the truck to run from each battery, separately? Mine is a single-alternator application. Is there any difference when there are two alternators? Is each charging a separate battery, then? Is there some kind of diode-isolator in that application?
I realize that there are a few questions there, which might require a looooong answer, but my basic question is "Are they simply paralleled"?
Mine are in parallel with no isolator. If they were in series, then you'd be running a '24 volt' system. Hope this helps a little. Sorry I don't have a wiring diagram.
Yea, guys, I know they aren't wired in series. LOL.
Is there a DIRECT connection between the positive posts on the two batteries, ALL the time? Maybe a solenoid between to only connect them when starting? Like I said, a diode or two?

Someone with the wiring diagram?
Pop
But it would turn over really, really fast for a very, very short time, LOL
They are connected directly. If you had the dual alternator option, then the PCM checks for a load on both alternators, and regulates each seperatly for their respective requirments. The second alternator would work really well if you had another bank of cells in the back for auxillery equipment......like that big 400 watt stereo that you secretly want. LOL
There's nothing between them. ON my old one, I had added a relay isolating them when I turned off the key, so I never ran both down because these beasts are kind of heavy to push start.
The battery isolator lets both batteries charge, but only one discharge under a constant load (stereo, winch, etc) the other is preserved for a starting load.
In the PSD, both bats are the start battery.
Same is done it a bunch of race cars. Batts are charged and drained together. Keeps them from having to run the alternator.
