I am selling my truck, which is a 73 F250 Highboy. One interested person wanted to buy it but claimed that all Highboys are made in Canada. He said there should be a plate on the drivers side door jam that says that it is made in Canada. I have a sticker that says Ford Motor company in USA. I have never heard this and would like some verification if anybody knows for sure. The Vin is F26YKS09678
It has all the right parts that are Highboy unique; divorce transfer case, closed knuckle 44, & a power steering ram. So any advice would be apreciative.
Thanks.
Derek
Every 1973 F-250 qualifies for the slang denomination of "highboy". Your buyer needs to stop smoking crack, or he may just be blowing smoke up your skirt to drive down the price.
I thought that the 2 in the vin was canadian- I know it is now. I'd rather have a canadian Ford. At least the newer ones, anyways. For some reason they make more power.
Whether it's a Canadian made or American made "hiboy" is really irrelevant in my opinion because it's a Ford and that's all that counts---Canada is just alittle "bigger" than Texas and alittle colder ,but who cares---right ---I'll quote Rodney Dangerfield Shakespeare(the jewish Bard)who said as he was driving his Hiboy out in Palm Springs---"who carries those frickin' parts to fix my airconditioner"?...... "holly kosher dill pickle Batman , I tells ya I just don't get no Respect or parts for my Hiboy"...This power assist steering is hard on a jewish guys arms.........Anyway , hiboys are just Fords and nothing else matters.......fd
man this thread went off weird didn't it? no, not all highboys were built in canada. a highboy is a frame design of a ford pickup. my 77 1/2 is not a highboy but all 73-77 F250 4 X 4's with a divorced transfer case are. the 2 in the VIN (F26) just means it is an F250. the vins used to all start with the model F10 is 2WD F100, F11 is 4X4 F100, F25 is F250 2WD and F26 is F250 4X4 etc... my old econoline pickup was an E10! hawkrod
Dont worry, your truck was made in the good ole' USA,
In the 73-79 era,Highboys were made (F-250's & F-350's)
from 73-77.5 model years.
77.5 and up were the lowrider years......
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 08-Nov-02 AT 10:39 PM (EST)]All highboys started life a ordinary 4X4 pickups, either F150 or F250's. Some owner just raised them. They did not come from the factory that way.
Highboy was a factory option- Alberta, are you trying to tell me that everybody that raises their truck, also cuts and narrows the frame? Look in any catalog that sells gas tanks- the Highboys have a 26" wide frame. I know, as I am now dealing with how to put new spring perches on an axle from a highboy- the perches are 31 1/2" apart, and my trucks are 36 1/2" apart.
Highboy's DID NOT start off as regular trucks and then someone lifted them. Ford built all 3/4 ton 4x4's from the 73-77 1/2 model year with basically a 4inch lift factory. A highboy IS NOT a lifted truck....It is stock that way from the factory...and For everyones information F100's and F150's WERE NOT Highboys and never came from the factory as tall as the F250's....Also Ford NEVER produced a 1 Ton (F350) in 4x4 form until LATE 1977. Dave (Highboy Guru!!!!)
If i remember correctly the canadians fought in every war along side the 'mericans starting with WW1 ,WW2 , korea , vietnam , D.storm , and who knows how many in the future.....they gave their lives for a common goal(freedom) and I'll buy a truck from canada just as quick as I will from Atlanta----SOO I'll say it again , It doesn't make a DAMN if it is made in Canada or alittle south of there fellow ford lovers , it's still a Ford!!!!!!!fd

Someone is drunk.
Highboy Knowns:
1.) 'Highboy' is not a Ford name. It is a nickname given by the general public.
2.) It doesn't matter if you spell it "Highboy" or "High Boy".
3.) All 73-77 F250 4WD's are "Highboys".
4.) All Highboy's have the same width frame from the front bumper to the rear bumper.
5.) Highboy's have a very prominent steel crossmember right below the front bumper that connects the left frame rail to the right frame rail. (you can see it in your rear view mirror right before your wife yells "HONEY!")
6.) All Highboy's have divorced transfer cases.
7.) I drive and cherish one. (and it was built in San Jose, CA U.S.A.)
8.) Browsing this part of the forum, this topic will raise it's ugly head at least once a month.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 09-Nov-02 AT 07:08 PM (EST)]good synopsis but one error; not all 77's are highboys. mid 77 was the introduction of the newer updated and much better (TIC) F250. LOL, hawkrod
