Need help to diagnose 1999 E 350 with 7.3 powerstroke
Just wondering if anyone could offer some assistance in diagnosing this truck. The truck dies out after it is warmed up. The truck will run 70 mph and then slowly begins to lose speed and power to the point that it will not pull itself or go and sometimes will even die. I have taken it to the shop and had the codes read in the computer and nothing has come from it. I have had valve cover gaskets checked; the back pressure sensor replaced and tube cleaned; the fuel tank dropped and checked for blockages with no success. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Some things come to mind.
1. Your fuel filter may need changing.
2. Your air filter is clogged.
3. You may have a electric fuel pump thats crapping out once it gets hot.
4. A cam position sensor going bad once it gets hot.
5. Your injector driver module crapping out once it gets hot.
It's something that the CPM isn't checking....that's why I say the filters, fuel pump, and the IDM. Your CPS may or may not throw a code....it can become intermitent......that's why I've included it. Hope this helps.
There is another fleet mechanic that is having similar problems with the same type of truck. Together we have replaced the fuel pump, glow plugs, injector harness, injectors and replaced the IDM and PCM. The cam sensor is reading correclty when the engine is hot. I have checked that with the computer while it was experiencing the problem. The air filter is clean. There is less than 150,000 miles on it. Just wondering if a change in location could be a contributing factor. The truck was recently transferred to Alabama after being in Florida. Thanks for your help.
Now see.....there you go and burst my bubble!.......now your going to make me think. Darn!
Ok, is this the complete list of everything that's been changed and/or been checked? And we're talking about two trucks with the same problem......run fine til they get hot? And they both start crapping out at around 70 MPH. Is this correct?
Sorry to make you think! This truck has been at Ford for over a month. They have called the tech line without much success. On my truck, the fuel system and the electrical harnesses have been checked. The computer diagnostics have come up blank. I even drove the truck with the Ford tech who had the diagnostic computer hooked up to the truck while the truck was having the problem. If there is anything else you can think of, I appreciate your help! Yes, there are two trucks with the same problem.
When it dies, does it sound like an engine miss (chug chug chug) or just fade down?
Has anyone checked fuel pressure with a manual guage while underway?
I know you replaced it, but it sure sounds like failing fuel supply to me. Possibly getting a TON of air in the fuel because of leaky o-rings on those pesky quick connects on the fuel supply line?
Swapped in a known good MAP sensor?
i have new up date on the truck ,i have code(p0476) exhaust pressure control valve preformance is what shows up on the scan tool,i have not had any dealings with this.any help would be helpful.
that is the problem i am haveing dont know if the exhaust back pressure valve is bad or cat is stoped up or turbo is bad ,so many thing could be wrong with truck im not sure what to next.

Well you could start by disconnecting the downpipe at the outlet end and driving the van on the freeway. It'll be loud but not intolerable. If all the power returns then you can be certain that the problem is an obstruction in the exhaust. At that point you have good excuse for that nice 4" exhaust.
How about for giggles, check the fuel filter and make sure both o-rings are correct located, possibly something moving around in the bowl? just throwin stuff out
