Depending on the axle ratio Ithey have the same tow rating...except the duallie. The V10 will have a higher payload due to the lower weight of the engine over a powerstroke.
My new V10 gets better mileage with my slide in Camper on than my 1988 460 did running empty. My new unit weighs 11080 , still under my 11200 GVW. I just did a hand calculation driving this truck to work 10 times with the camper on, 8 miles each way of curvy backroads with an average speed of 45 MPH and this rig did an honest 9.8 MPG When I did this commute with my 460 empty, I could not get 9 MPG with an empty F250 4x4 SC that weighed around 5000 pounds. 3 weeks ago I did a 2300 mile trip running hard , lot's of 6 & 8 % grades and I was almost always over 70 MPH and did 8.7 MPG over the complete trip. I did this same trip with my 04 F350 6.0 PSD and averaged 10.5 so that is less than 2 MPG difference. My previous 3 trucks were diesels because I wanted the max tow ratings and the most power. This V10 matched the performance of my 04 6.0 PSD and both the V10 and 6.0 could leave my 7.3s on 8% grades with a Camper on. I like this V10 better than any motor I have ever owned in any vehicle. My 02 Honda Accord Vtec likes to rev, but compared to a V10 it is a little dog. It is good to see that Ford has finally put a great gas motor in the Super Duty because if any truck ever deserved a good motor, it is these incredible Super Duties, truly the best pickup on the market. Take care, Wrenchtraveller.
I am with the rest of the v-10 guys. get the v-10 the 05 3 valve motor is just incredible when it comes to hauling. I pull a trailer loaded with a s220 skid loader with 80" bucket with tracks a tree shear , brush cutter and a brush saw. You are talking about a 16k pound plus load and this truck did this going up a steady grade and I kept this thing steady at 75. This is not a one time deal I pull this load at least twice a week.. I was scared when I first got my v-10, but this thing is pulling machine up hill down hill whatever. Get the v-10 you wont regret it
