I will be towing a 4500-5000# trailer about 60 miles, now i plan on doing much heavier towing later, and i was wondering how i could tell if my truck is already wired, and how difficult it is to wire a trailer brake controller.
Look in your vehicle owner's manual. There will be a section on towing and connecting a brake controller. My '05 was a direct plug in using a jumper harness that came with the Prodogy controller.
there a sentence in my manual about trailer brakes, and all it says is that its recommended for trailers over 1500 pounds, the old manuals arent as explanatory as the new ones.

My '02 was already wired. Look between the steering wheel and the radio under the dash. There should be a bundle of wires hang there or taped up in there. I'll look under my dash today and try to tell you more if you can't find them.

Maybe if you shared with the group what year model and series truck you have, that we can't see, better advice could be forthcoming.
