What are the symtoms of an exhaust leak at the Exhaust manifold? Because I think I may have one and it may be affecting the operation of my truck... and how can I check and see if I do?
Does it sound like a nock? Because I think I have a leak and when its idleing it goes nock nock nock nock... and on and on, and if I rev it up a little it gets worse untill its really reving and then it stops nocking.
Do you have a cross over to single exhuast? Is so is there a valve in there to force exhaust through the intake for warm up? I've seen the spring in these go soft and make a heck of a knocking sound.
I've had great luck locating exhaust manifold leaks by simply running my finger around the perimeter of each port where the casket contacts the manifold. You must be careful to avoid contact, but you can do this without getting burned. If there's a leak you'll feel the "puff" of exhaust gas as it escapes around the gasket. Best to do this before engine warms up completely, and while it's at fast idle.
A trick that works for me is to run the truck at night in the dark. If it is an exhaust leak at the head/manifold junction, you will see the fire from combustion ever so slightly. I would suggest that you fix such a leak immediately because I had a couple exhaust valves burn from having leaks like that
GOOD LUCK
