I need some help
this morning I came out to a great site: apparently someone found it necessary to smash one of the windows in the sliding window assembly of my 75 F250 4x4. I was pretty angry. Looks like they just got a 2x4 and smashed the side that was on the street side. Amazes me how people do this crap just for fun. Now in the throes of winter, I need to fix this since I freeze when I drive. Question: can I take that sliding unit completely out and put a SOLID window in its place like the old 70 F250's have? How much trouble is it to do this job? Do I need any special tools? I never replaced glass ever and I need to get this fixed soon!
thanks again for anyone who helps

Any back window from the 73 to 79 trucks should fit.
To put back in:
the new window should have the gasket on it already. lay a piece of string in the track of the gasket all the way around the window and loosely tie it to itself on the bottom of the window making sure it will hang in the cab when you put the window in. Now set the bottom of the window into its place with the gasket straddled over the cab like it should be. Now with someone outside pushing in lightly on the window, you untie your string and start pulling it around the window. It should take the innner half of the gasket that is outside of the truck and pull it to the inside of the cab (Spraying the gasket with WD-40 ahead of time helps here). Once you have the string out, the window should be in and done.
Hope this helps.
It is pretty easy to remove the rear window. Its much easier when its warm.
A screwdriver or two should suffice.
Start tucking the rubber seal around the metal from the inside. Its critical to get the bottom corners and the entire bottom of the seal tucked around the metal. Start working your way up on the sides. Start pushing on the window and you'll see it start to give and it will eventually "pop" out.
Putting the new one in is a differnet animal but surprisingly easy.
Lube the seal up with dish detergent. Install the seal on the new window. Find a long length of wire and circle the seal with it in the groove. Place the window with one side(usually the bottom) on the metal rib. Have someone push the window from the outside against the window frame. Again, you should be able to get one side started right off the bat and then start pulling the corners of the seal over the metal lip. Once one side and two corners are in, you can pull the wire out of the seal from the inside of the truck. This will quickly pull the seal around the metal lip. Make sure that your buddy is pushing on the window evenly and firmly. If the seal does not make it over the lip stop and manually pull it over with a screwdriver, then continue with the wire pulling.
Good Luck,
