ok im confused
everyone i talk to sais something different
do i want to install it on the manifold by the oil filter
or do i wanna install it after the turbo just before the bend to the down pipe
2002 psd auto metre pyro gauge
instrauctions say 1 to 2 inches from the turbo on the exhaust
Exhaust manifold will yield more accurate readings. Your protecting the pistons from high temps, so the closer the better! Post turbo readings can vary by 200 deg's.
Actually it has been shown that pre turbo and post turbo temps can vary almost 400 degrees.
Here is the problem post turbo temp of 900 degrees is cited as safe by many proponents of post turbo placement but it can mean a pre turbo temp of 1250 to 1300 degrees. Aluminum melts at 1220 degrees. The pistons in your PSD are made of aluminum.
Feel free to put the probe wherever you want. I put mine pre turbo and do not allow the EGT to excede 1200 degrees
If you get the AutoMeter guage with the band clamp, you put the probe in the exhaust pipe that runs from the driver's side manifold to the turbo. It's easiest to install on the bottom of the pipe.

That is how I did mine. Piece of cake. Also gravity helps keep the shavings out of the pipe. Grease the bits too. Start small and go up one bit at a time, keeps the shavings small.
piece of cake is right
started installing the gauges at 900 pm and closed the hood at 1200 pm
i think the hardest part was wiring up the gauge pod with all those small wire connectors and my big fingers
egt at an idle stays around 250 1000 at wot
boost gets up to 22 at wot
and the trans seems to run between 125 and 165
cruising on the freeway flat ground at 60 mph
egt 600
boost 6 psi
do these numbers compare to everyone elses
thats without the predator tuner stock exhaust and kand n filter

My tranny seems to run right at 160 around town on an 82+ degree day.
The boost and EGT are about the same.
Haven't towed yet, next week.
