Exclamation Short to Ground????????????????

Alright guys this is killing me. I have hooked up electric brakes to my 91 using the already in place harness. I bought one of those connectors that has the pigtail as well as the round 7 pin in one unit hooked it up and it worked. The next time I towed the trailer every time I would use a turn signal, brake lights, or just turn the headlights on the brakes on the trailer would lick up. I fiddled with it then called a friend over to hook it up to his truck no problems. A couple of days later I hooked it up again worked fine. I borrowed a dump trailer this weekend and it is now doing the same thing. I put a new plug on the trailer because the old one was busted and used a volt meter on the truck to make sure I wired it right. I also noticed that when I turn on the left signal the right signal on the trailer flashes in sync with the other. I am confused please help.

This is a sign of a possible grounding problem. On the round style plugs there should be a terminal marked ground. A short piece of wire needs to be bolted to the trailer tongue frame, and then hooked to the ground pin on the trailer plug. Then another short piece of wire needs to the bolted to the truck frame, and then hooked to the ground pin on the truck plug. Most of the time it will ground itself through the ball, but sometimes it doesn't.
