I Have A '99 E-150 That I Cannot Get To Run Correctly. Truck Has 100k Miles And A 4.2 V-6. I Keep Getting Code 0340, And An Egr Insuficiant Flow Code. The Truck Will Run Well Until Warmed Up Then Bucks And Shuts Off In Gear But Usually Idles Ok And At Times It Will Run Good.i Have Replaced Plugs,wires,coil,fuel Filter ,and Cam Sensor All With No Change.any Help Would Be Greatly Appreciated.
i know there are promlems with the egr on diesels, the carbon up and won't close. could this be it? if the rig ran rich for long enough it would plug the cat.

I think you have it Harold. I've seen them with a chunk of carbon stuck between the valve and it's seat preventing the valve from closing fully. It will cause the symptoms that whalebird mentioned.
You will need to remove the egr valve to check it for sure. Sometimes you can just pop a single chunk of carbon out of it and put it back on. If it's all gunked up you may want to replace the valve.
