Universal EFI

To anyones knowledge did any car manufacture (recent) make a EFI system that would work on any vehicle that had a intake that would accept a modern Holley 4 barrel carb? Is there a vehicle to go to to get a EFI system and computer that can be used on just about any carbed vehicle?

GM TBI is nearly to that point. It's still a proprietary system, but there are a lot of people making wiring harnesses for 'em, as well as adaptor plates etc. It's relatively simple to convert any magnetic pickup distributor to use the module so you have timing control, and the chips are easy to burn. I got a chip burner, a flash chip adaptor and a complete harness/injector/computer all for less than $250 off ebay (bought individually from different sources). The best donor vehicle is late '80's early 90's full size pickups. They use the '747 computer that most conversions and harnesses are based on.

Megasquirt EFI is great, use a GM throttle body on an adapter from Painless Perfomance, and a DSII ignition system. If you have a 2BBL intake, the Ford CFI system on 82-85 Crown Vics used a standard 2BBL mount.

I wondered if anyone has ever thought of trying to convert a late 80's dodge TBI to work. I just say that because my boss had an ' 89 d/150 and it had a TBI 318. I found it to work much nicer than the GM's, I loved how the dodge people programmed it so the throttle let off quickly, like the old motorcraft 2BB's. Whereas the tbi GM's let off real slow like the speed density ford's. I feel like I'm the only one that's been annoyed by this slow 'return to idle". To me it's like a real slow computer in a very hectic office.
I know that the GM's are the most common parts, but I would just love to see that dodge setup somehow installed on an early 351w.
