I drove my son's 95 f150 yesterday and the brake pedal was very spongy and they make a little squeak when applied. I asked him when it started doing that.
He said it started after he added brake fluid and proceeds to get a bottle out of the glove box, turns out he put power steering fluid in instead of brake fluid. I figure this can't be good. What should I do? Any suggestions?
I would flush the entire hydraulic system with brake fluid until you are sure all of the power steering fluid is out of the lines, and bleed out all the air. I don't know if it would cause any long term effects, but I would definitely get the power steering fluid out of there as soon as possible. I don't think it would do too much damage (if any at all) because power steering fluid is a hydraulic fluid like the brake fluid.
For safety sake overhaul the system and replace all rubber parts. Take a wheel cylinder cup and place it in P/S fluid over night take a look at it the next day and you will see what I mean.. Good luck, George
