Some Edited out in a bmw thought he was going to make it accross the intersection by cutting me off. I knew he was going to do it so I hit my Edited out to slow down. I did'nt exspect him to stall the car. I locked up my brakes for 20-30 feet and hit him doing around 25-30. Totaled his car, passenger side rear quater panel you can see in the trunk. My bumper, grille, passenger fender and a few other things got hurt. This is one tough truck. I was in the truck with my girlfriend she hit the dash pretty good hurting her neck and knees, Because the Edited air bag didn't go off. THe cop on the scene says I should sue ford as she would not have hit the dash board if the air bag went off. I'm so pissed not even 4000 miles and it will never be the same. Have any of you had the airbag not go off. I hope there is no frame damage. check out the pics
I was told be happy that the airbag did not go off by the ambalance driver. Most people have lots of scratches to thier face when it does goes off.
I sure hope everyone is OK.
Sorry to hear about your truck. Just be very pickey when you pick it up after the repair.
I endoed an F150 at 65 mph, and I can tell you that an airbag does not make a pleasant alarm clock. However, neither my passenger nor myself had any scratches to the face or broken noses that you hear about so frequently. I am convinced those air bags saved both of us serious injury or worse.
As a side note, we were both over 6', and therefore sitting with both seats all the way back. I can see where someone sitting closer to the dash could sustain injury.
I'm sorry to hear your GF got hurt, but glad your here to tell us about it. Looking at the truck and your description of the crash, the airbag did what it was supposed to do, nothing. Airbags are designed to go off in crashes where the results are going to be minor to moderate injury from an airbag or severe injury to death without one. The ambulance driver was right, if she was able to hit the dash, the airbag deploying would have caused severe injury. Truck doesn't look to bad though, looks like you hit the knucklehead pretty square.
The guy in the BMW was lucky I was paying attention to him otherwise I would have hit him full speed, I bet it would have killed him or involved other vehicles.
Your truck doesn't look too bad, I'm sure it will be just like new after the repairs since from the looks of it you don't have any frame damage.
About 10 years ago I had a Jeep Grand Cherokee, hadn't even made the first payment on it and I was cruising down the street doing about 45 mph and some old lady turned right in front of me. She thought she had a green light to turn at the intersection and made a left right in front of me, I never even had a chance to hit the brakes. As the air bag was deflating here car was still spinning through the intersection. Completely totaled her Ford Taurus. My truck should have been totaled, but her damn insurance company was like, it will take $25,000 to fix your truck or $35,000 to replace it, so we will fix it. The frame was so badly bent that they couldn't get it right by straightening it so they had to cut out the frame section & weld a new one in. Man was I pissed, but at least I got $10,000 out of them for pain & suffering.
I think the reason your air bags didnt go off is because your trucks damage isnt that bad. The sensors require a more pushed in front end. I wouldnt be concerned about the truck not being the same again as long as you find a good body shop, probably not the one your agent recommends. They probably wont find any used parts to use since the truck model is so new. Almost all insurance companies will require the shop to try to find used. When mine was in recently they ordered a few used parts but the bodyman refused them because they werent like new. Mine had similar mileage yours has but the damage on mine was much worse and the frame was untouched. Now the repaired part looks better and straighter than the original side. Remember the factory assembly isnt perfect so they can be repaired as good or better than original unless the frame is twisted but then they probably get a new frame or it would get totaled.

I had a recent accident in a chebby 4 car pile up, my car was totalled due to bent frame, wrecked grill, hood and radiator support. My airbags DID NOT go off so I was not injured seriously.
Our office secretary had an accident this year where the airbag did go off and she had severe 2nd degree burns and abrasions on her face which the doctor said would take at least a year before the scaring and sun sensitivity go away. She had her belt on and probably would not have been hurt otherwise.
I personally like lap and shoulder belts, especially the ones that are tight all the time(old fashioned ones). In 5 accidents, 2 totals, 1 major damage and 2 light damage, the belts prevented me from having any injuries other than sore muscles and neck.
Don't know if I like airbags since I never had one go off, only owned 3 cars with them, one totaled. I personally think they are for the really stupid people who won't protect themselves by using their belts, sitting on your foot with belt on isn't proper as we now know, but the bag didn't work either in that case. For those of us who use our belts properly I think they are a source of injury(burns abrasions, broken wrists, decapitation, that's a good benefit...) that otherwise wouldn't happen.
I also hear that they are really expensive to replace when they do go off. One of the more popular theft items now on the autoparts black market.
Oh well, guess the safety ***** need something to do when Darwin is doing his best to thin out the herd.
