about 4 years ago i was involved in a head on crash, i was going 60, the other driver was going 55. i had my belt on and my air bad deployed and that is the only reason i didnt die. we both hit on the drivers side of our trucks. i had a dodge ram at the time. the only injury i had was a broken leg. thats it. my truck was beyond totaled, the only thing straight on it was the rear bumper and tail gate. everything else was bent or broken. the drivers spindle sheared off at the ball joints.
AN AIR BAg IS A SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT, you have to use it with your seat belt. if you dont have your seat belt on and you are in an accident and your bag deploys, its going to do alot of damage to you.
I too was in a accident last december.I crashed my 97 Explorer head on into the center divider, the air bag saved my behind.I hit the wall doin approx. 50mph.This happened during a heavy rain storm.I just want to say that yes,all the safety equipment is there and it works.I was lucky to walk away from accident, shaken up but unharmed. The only thing that I remember is that the air bag was soft when I hit it,the most important thing about air bags is to be the propper distance from the bag,and not to close.
Like was stated earlier,I hope one was injured and take care,
