How do you remove tie rods?

My 95 Ranger 4wd has a bit of a wander in the steering. I have been doing searches on the forums to get some ideas as to what may be the problem. I want to check my ball joints and have read that its best to check them with the tie rods off. Do you still use a "pickle fork" to pop them loose? If not how do you get them out. Thanks TIm

you don't need to take the tie rods off to check the ball joints. just jack the front up, take a long bar of some sort, place it under the tire and pry up. there should be no play if the ball joints are good. to check the tie rods just grab both sides of the tire and check for side to side play, there should be none.

There was some discussion on another thread that the ball joints may show no play but still may be siezed. So I thought I would give it a look. BTW I did jack it up and they don't seem to have play. Thanks Tim
