I've been looking at this Herculiner roll-on bed liner at Pep Boys for two years. Every time I see it, I wonder if it's worth it or not. I saw a commercial for Herculiner the other day, and now I'm wondering if anyone has used it for their own truck? I've got a 96 Regular cab with the 8' box. I'm really curious as to how this will turn out/look. If anyone has used it please respond.
Also, I'm trying to find a super charger kit for my truck that is NOT centrifugal. I'd much prefer a twin-screw or a roots type. Maybe even a turbo kit if anyone knows where I could find one. (It's a 5.0l 2WD)
It's 10 years old I'm 500 miles away from hitting 150,000. I know it may not be worth it to do modify this truck; however, Truck love will do that to you.
Also, does anyone know the HP and Torque ratings for a '96 5.0L?
I found the herculiner at a target for like 50 with a 20 dollar rebate so really paid 30. For 30 bucks its great compared to what it was (extremely scatched up and bare metal showing). Looks as good as the expensive 500$+ bedliners but it doesnt hold up as well. Yes if you put heavy stuff in the bed and drag it around it will scrape off, but other than that its just fine. I would reccommend (if you do buy it) get 2 and put it on thicker. With what they give you is enough for 2 coats and ends up being like 1/8" thick. I think that if you were able to get like a 1/4" of this stuff on with the proper prep work it would be great. Its all in the prep work!!! Clean very good with acetone (same as paint thinner pretty much) and use the scrubbing pad they give you to rough up and sand the surface, then clean again before you roll it on. DO NOT get this crap on your skin, beleive me i made the mistake tryin to be a tough guy....lets just say i had it on my arm for like 3 weeks.
Overall for me its perfect. My bed did look just horrible...scratched up and bare metal, almost no paint left. Now it looks great, keeps it from rusting, and keeps stuff from slidin around. I dont do too much heavy work with it because im always using a trailor for stuff, but occasionally ill have my snowmobile/dirtbike or some tools in the back.
If you have the cash for a expensive pro job and it will bother you to have a scratched up bedliner (considering you use it for heavy work), buy rhino or line-x.
Have you looked in the Tech Articles section of our website? Click the link and follow the catagories to an in-depth article about Herculier by our Webmaster. I read it and I have the herculier on my truck, I have the same opinion and result he did.
I dont know much about the hurculiner, but it if you want a really good heavy duty liner i can say permatech is an excellent choice. Ive had a permatech liner in my truck for about a year and i cant mess it up. Plus, if it ever peels or flakes, etc its a free replacement with a lifetime warrenty. :-)
Yea i would have much wrather got the good stuff that is a lot stronger, but i just didnt have the money and needed a bedliner to keep it from rusting and make it look better. Anyways im not to rough with my bed so it still looks great.
Yeah, my F-150 doesn't regularly see things that would scrape my herculiner. If I have to carry something that would, I just be a little more careful. I've scratched it and scraped it but its ok, no biggy...
I used herculiner on my truck and I am happy with the results. My opinion matches Snowman's above. To repeat: do not get that stuff on your skin. I did also and once it dries nothing I could find would take it off execpt a long time in a hot shower scraping with my finger nails. Look for it on sale at Menards.
