well if im drivin down a smooth road its fine..but if i hit a bump it dies for a sec then kicks back on...now if im goin down a bump road its hit and miss, but pretty much every bump kills the motor. i know its electrical, cause now its sittin in my driveway and just wont start, but smells like gas ( flooded now) but it doesnt even try to start. help!
I had the same problem with a 88 f150 I owned. My problem was the small wire that is attached to your positive battery cable clamp. That wire is crimped to the positive wire for the computer, that connection was loose so if I hit a bump just right I would be walking. Hope this helps
Is it carb of EFI? I would start by making sure the ign coil is snugly mounted and all HT leads are firmly planted on the plugs/coil/dist. Perhaps also check that the ign switch is nice and snug/adjusted on the columb under the dash (depending on year). Battery not moving around and shorting against hood/bodywork. Dist cap in tact, ground strap to engine depending on year. It really sounds like something physically loose breaking ground or contact somewhere
I had this happen w/a broken coil bracket on my type I baja.
Do yourself a favor and check ALL the ground connections to body and engine. Then check the battery terminals and make sure that they are clean and tight....just like the ground points should be. Like the posts above said check your coil and its connections. If you can replace your coil with a KNOWN good one just to test.
PLEASE post back here to let us know what the problem was and how it was fixed.
