RPMs

I have a 98 exp with a K&N and Gibson Cat back. I've noticed recently that my rpm are revving much higher at 70mph. I use to cruise at 2000 rpms, now I notice it's cruising closer to 2500 and then 3000 if I am going between 75 - 80 mph. Can't imagine this is good for the gas mileage. Any thoughts?

I'm no expert, but...

It sounds like you are losing O/D or your converter is on its way out. Definitely have your tranny checked.

Sounds like an O/D problem to me also. Are you sure the button wasn't pressed?

Thanks for the feedback. It definitely shifts into OD, as it downshifts when I take if off OD. One other thing, I need to replace my IAC valve as it has been humming on and off recently. Would this be somehow connected?

I turn 3000 RPM in 4th gera at 75-80 miles an hour. My truck is a 99' with 373 gears. This sounds normal. If ther was any slippage it would be coming form th e tranny and would be very short lived before failure.
