Chip or Tuner

I'm looking for info and feedback from those who use a chip upgrade or the tuner upgrade. I have a '99 F-250 SD, manual trans, 4x4. I've done the 4' exhaust, upgraded to a larger ATS turbo, but I can't decide on either a chip or tuner upgrade. Any info will be appreciated.

it looks like youre on the right track as far as mods go. before you get the tuner you NEED to get guages, at least a pyrometer, a lot of people get a 3 guage setup with pyro, tranny, and boost. you want to monitor your engine before you blow it up. looks like you also need a intake, look up kwikfilter on here and you will get a ton of ideas, cheap and very easy, also a must have. as far as chips and tuners go, the possibilities are endless and you will get everyones opinion. i was going to go with a predator tuner but i think im going to go with a jody tipton chip, switch on the fly and custom for what you want and need, go to dp-tuner.com. just my 2 cents here.

Welome to FTE! Chips can make more power because they can be custom programmed to each individual vehicle. Tuners are nice for viewing and clearing diagnostic codes, altering tire size, etc... A lot depends on the needs or wants of the individual. Before any more upgrades, I would suggest at least a pyrometer to monitor EGT's and an aftermarket intake. The Edge Attitude with Juice is a nice system that gives you an in cab monitor, 5 levels of HP, and trans slip/EGT defuel protection. I like the Diablosport and Bull Dog chips personally, but I'd have the Edge if they made one for my truck. Check out the FTE sponsors for some great deals. Good luck and happy hunting!

Thanks for your input sdpj & Max1775, I do have a boost and pyro gauge setup, also have an Airraid intake. I have a Superchips Max Microtuner from an older (97)PSD truck I own, but I don't like the turbo lag I seem to get when I program the '99 with it. I like this forum, lots of great experienced users and great info on a variety of topics.

Sounds like your ready for HP. Might even consider propane injection with a custom chip then. You can get huge HP gains! A little research here goes a long way, the forum has a lot of good guys with tons of knowledge that are always willing to help.

Give me a call.. I can set you up with a 4 or 6 position TS Peformance flip chip.
I can set you up with programs such as: Stock/Hi-Idle/No-Start/50/75/100/125 (depending on truck) and even 140+HP!
