Murphy and Square One
In a weak moment I had decided to redo my steering to accomodate my headers (its very dangerous to have a box full of chrome goodies laying about the garage) So I made numerous trips to the wrecking yard and came back with a variety of columns (and a 30 pack of frosty beverages).
I managed to get the big Caddy engine back between the frame rails complete with the chrome headers in place. MMMMMMM CHROME!!!! After many nights, a whole list of cuss words, and the obligatory blood sacrifice to the truck gods I sat back and started in on the frosty beverages with my head in my hands as I came to the realization that without adding a fourth u-joint and another support bearing to the steering shaft the chrome headers just would not work....
.....Square One! I bolted in my original tilt & telly Caddy column, bolted on the stock Caddy exhaust manifolds (after a liberal coating of cowboy chrome engine paint) and am almost back to the point I was 2 weeks ago before the demons attacked.
The upside is that my I did get engine put back together with rear sump oil pan, new oil pump, new coating of paint, all accessories cleaned and painted and the engine and transmission installed in truck (hopefully for the last time)
Thanks all, I just had to vent a little bit
Bobby
You go, Boy! Vent on! I think you're singing our theme song here. I'm sure Niolon has the words for it written many times over.
I went to a truck show this week and came away with many ideas. Some of them entail backing up on what I've already done and doing it differently, so I know exactly what you mean.
Thanks. I'm thinking I'm out of the rut(again) and back on the road to progress. My goal is to have all of the major mechanical fabrication complete by this summer and have a driving truck. Then starts the long slow process of bodywork. Shouldn't be too bad I have a good friend that is one of the best bodymen I have ever seen and he owes me a huge favor. (I've spent at least one day of every weekend of the last 9 months helping him build his house).
I know what you mean about the car shows....sometimes they are a big help but other times they open up a whole new can of worms...........ain't it grand
Bobby
