i bought a 55 F100 two days ago. i have wanted this truck since i had my first model 10 years ago.
i will be doing a frame off, once i am at a place longer than 8 months. it is an old military truck. it still has the nomenclature tags and offical use only painted on the doors.
i am very happy since this will be my first restore. i have helped on many before but never my own.
my goal this year is to at least getting it running. when i get my digi working i will post up some pics so you'all will be able to give me some advice.
Paul,
Welcome aboard! Sounds like a neat truck. Are you going back all original, mild or wild? John will be by soon to cast the shadow of the dark side over your garage.
You've got the right idea with the camera, as we all love pics!
Welcome to the board! sounds like it will be a nice truck. I'm sure you'll catch a little bit of grief about your choice of engines but don't sweat it, its your truck, build like you want it. I'm not exactly a factory original guy either as I have Cadillac power under my hood.
Can't wait to see the pics!
Good luck
Bobby
"Darksiders" are what we call rodders on this forum. So, it looks like you qualify. "John" (Niolon) is our darkside mentor, and a long-time member here. Plenty of other folks here prefer to restore their trucks. George (Earl's World) would probably qualify as a mentor for the resto guys. Something for everybody.
Once you've made some more posts, you'll be able to search the forum for info and articles to help answer questions. A very cool feature. There is a real wealth of info available and some of the members are truly talented fabricators.
Louvers are old school. A left over from the 50's. Louvers actually were very functional on early rods for cooling engine compartments. Putting them on every other area was just a personal taste thing that evolved over the years. Just being different and "cool". I never have cared much for them either, although I have seen some very tasty uses of them on some rods.
Welcome to FTE and congrats on your new truck. We look forward to your pictures.
ND,
Sounds like the engine choice is perfect. You can't beat a free engine.
LOL...the dark side is how they refer to the custom world. I guess the true restoration guys are following the path of light while the rest of us have slipped off into the dark. You'll pick up on it after reading some of the other posts.
Originally louvers were punched into panels to allow air flow, either cool air into and/or hot air out of the engine compartments. I'm with you, I'm not a big louver fan and prefer a smooth look.
The louvers can be handy for grating cheese when you are preparing a pizza. I never had a thing for them, myself.
Speaking of the dark side, I am reminded of why the "Force" is like duct tape. Both have a dark side and a light side and both hold the universe together.
Welcome to FTE. I like the 55's; the first effie I drove was a 55, and I've always liked that grille.
Feel the force gas-hopper. The dark side becons you. Welcome to the forum. There is a wealth of knowledge here for whatever you wish to do with your FORD Truck. I have just begun my own 55 F100 project. Mine will be mild street with the original 272 Y-block (might bore it out to a 292). I made my choice to go this way with the help of the people on this forum. Spend some time reading the articles and and past posts. There is more info than you can comprehend. Then work some overtime and spend all your money on that old truck.
Boyz, we got us a writer in our midst - and a humorist to boot (take a look at his profile!). Welcome aboard Paul, or for you light blue suiter types - welcome to the country club! I've been dragging my '48 Effie (free 350 also) coast to coast and loving it. Have fun and we'll look for pics.
Welcome ND, You will be able to build your truck anyway you wish around here. Dark, light, Ch**y, FORD, it doesn't matter. There is a ton of help, no matter which way you go. Personally, I like the old trucks to look stock, but then I want to add A/C, PS, PB, AT, etc. Also, I really like to see a Ford in a Ford, but for free, it sounds like you have a good reason to go that way. Good luck, Jag
