Folks, My wife seems to want a P T Cruiser, we really need a "new" vehicle, we have been looking for about 6 months now, the only other vehicle she WAS interested in is the NEW Monte Carlo SS, which she has now rejected, due to a problem with the height of the armrest on the door.
We have done some vehicle swapping within our family recently, due to her having her foot operated on, (she has been driving "my" '78 F150 "Ranger" Supercab for almost 7 months now & I REALLY want it back, even if I have to have a Chrysler product in my driveway!!!!!!!!! Comments Welcome!!!!
Rick
Go for the monte carlo, or actually just get a Corvette, that vette should have plenty of power fo you. Or if you bleed Ford blue, a Ligthning. But ANYTHING even a Dodge, is better than a PT cruiser. Even a Jeep Liberty is better than a PT cruiser.
i dunno id try and wait it out until they come out with the supercharged PT..........although i guess you could just add an aftermarket turbo......i like the way they look too......especially black one's with tinted windows......if i had 20 grand and was going to purchase a car (will probably never happen, id buy a new truck first) id prolly consider that as a choice, but honestly id rather have the ss monte......they drive very nicely, i drove a rental and absolutely loved it.
If they would make the PT cruiser rear wheel drive and drop a 426 hemi, 440 6 pack, or even a fuel injected 318 0r 360 with a 5 or 6 speed manual transmission behind it, it might be a fun vehicle to drive.
LAST EDITED ON 16-Aug-01 AT 07:52 PM (EST)[p]P.T.s are great, but the dealers still think they are gold plated, at least around here. Every used car lot in town has at least one, along with at least one VW New Beetle! Maybe PT stands for "Part Time" or "Pretty Tepid"! Ha! . Needs at least a 6cyl!
I have read that the PT actually is pretty solidly built. It is a mini mini-van. I would like it much better if it were rear wheel drive and ideally had a big straight six. Hmmm...slant six surely won't fit....possibly the 4.0 straight six used in Jeeps?...most likely too short on hood....probably have to go with a V6...light enough that a good V6 and rear wheel drive would make a good hot rod out of it. Don't want a V8 in that thing--too small--unless you want to go totally insane with it (like the 289 V8 Pinto I saw on the road the other day with the skinny front tires and fat rear tires).
I've driven the PT cruisers and they are pretty solid. I would look at resale value, warranty and insurance costs. By what I've seen around here the PT Cruisers resale is alot better than the Monte Carlos. And try not to finance it -- as the old saying goes "Unwise people pay interest - wise people earn it"

LAST EDITED ON 18-Aug-01 AT 08:26 AM (EST)[p]i swore that i would never buy a 4 banger. it is built on the neon platform. theres a custom shop up in michigan that makes modified pt's with bigblock v8's, and viper v10's, gonna cost ya though, rear wheel drive of course
Go for the PT. No matter what anybody tells you, right now it's the only american vehicle made that is actually worth more with 10,000 miles on it, than it was new. Next year she might want something else. With the PT you will get ALL OF YOUR MONEY BACK AND THEN SOME. It's like a free ride for a year.
Besides, they're a blast to drive. they're not about speed, big blocks and mondo tire burns. Instead, they're about stylin' and profilin'. Ridin' slow and being cool.
Also, I've found that when you do something your wife likes, payback is double sweet!!!!
Go for it, man. You'll love it. It's a lot of fun without the work!
