Ok, my Bronco has a 302 and will not run. When you start it, it won't idle at all. In fact you can't even keep it running by giving it gas. It will basically try to run really really rough if you press and release the gas peddle over and over to keep it from dieing. It did it once before and I took it to the dealer. It ran fine for them for 2 days. This time it quit running and I got it to them they told me that it had hard faults for the EGR valve, EVP sensor, and MAP sensor. Anyway, I asked about this before and from what I gathered it was most likely the EGR valve causing the problem. Rather than mess with cleaning it, I just replaced it. My truck still isn't running. There was no change at all. Could the MAP sensor or the EVP sensor cause this or is it most likely something totally different? I don't mind replacing them both except for the fact that I'd have put money into it and still have a Bronco sitting in the driveway that won't budge. I'm really confused as to if I should go ahead and swap these parts out or not. I don't know why but I have this really bad feeling that the dealer was wrong and that even if I go ahead and replace the parts it won't fix my problem. What do you guys think? Is it worth going ahead with replacing the parts or not? If not then any suggestions? Thanks.
Before someone else says it... allow me... CODES! get the codes pulled from the ECU and they will save you having to guess what is wrong. A code reader is the best $40 I have ever spent!
Yes.....pull the codes......but I have one quick question for you first. Was the truck running fine all along and then all of a sudden it started running *****ty.......or what. It almost sounds to me like the plug wires are crossed at some point???????
Their are so many things it could be. May be you can get lucky, but try changing the fuel filter. It sounds like it is not getting enough fuel. If it has not been changed in a while, then it wouldn't be a waste of money and it is cheap. Start with the cheap stuff to narrow it down.
I had the codes pulled. I said that in my post. They said there was hard faults on the EGR valve, EVP sensor and MAP sensor. I changed the EGR valve because of what I had read thinking that was the most likely candidate but there was no change at all. I'm now just not sure if any of the 3 are causing the problem. Yes it was running fine until it did this. I took it to the dealer and it started running fine for them the first time I took it to them. It ran fine for a few months then started doing it again. This time the dealer said when they pulled the codes it was the EGR valve EVP sensor and the MAP sensor giving hard faults. Anyway, it's been a month or so that I couldn't really have the time to mess with it so I'm now looking into it. I changed the EGR valve first thinking I would see a change but nothing. Just not sure that if I change the others it will help. I mean what are the chances that all 3 fail at the same time? My guess is something is causing them to show bad or act up. As far as plug wires crossed, I haven't done anything to them since long before this started happening. I mean they aren't very old, probably a year but definitely long before the problems started.
