I been wanting to install an amp in my truck and I finally found one I wanted. When I got it, I didn't realize how big the thing was and so I was limited on where I could put it. Started this morning around 9:00 am and finished picking everything up at 8:30 pm. Had to strip the interior and run new 12 gauge wire to the speakers, pull the deck out and install the RCA cords. Trying to get the 12 g speaker wire into the doors was a bit tough and running the 4 gauge power cord to the battery was another fun task.
I'm pretty happy with the result although I haven't had time to really test or enjoy it but at least it's done.
Now I get to see how the truck's alternator stands up to the load from the electric fans and the amp. The amp has 2 25 amp fuses on it along with a 80 amp inline fuse.
Sounds like work! I`ve thought about upgrading my aftermarket radio in my B2. Someday. I`d LOVE to have satellite radio. Prolly cost more than what the truck`s worth though!
It's a 600 watt amp. Replacing the stock stereo was the first thing I did around 5 years ago and got a Pioneer deck with XM. That was a major improvement. XM is addictive, sorta like cable tv for your truck. You can buy them without breaking the bank.
I finally replaced the stock speakers with a set of Pioneer 3 way's about 6 months ago and that was another big improvement which made me think about an amp. I've been pricing them and I wasn't ready to spend the dollars for one. Along comes a Pioneer amp that will drive the ones I have and the price was right. I didn't want to mess with a sub due to space. I will have to watch the bass a bit now but she does make some noise and the clarity is impressive. The Pioneer deck by itself did a pretty good job and would probably work for most.
Well so far I am still using the factory deck. Changed the speakers out to Rockford Fosgate 3-ways and added the amp with 2-8" subs under the seat.
Your right about XM, I have had it for 3 years and wouldn't go without it. Got so used to XM that I didn't even miss my regular antenna when it got broke off until the night of the storm and I had no way of getting local reports while I was driving.
Oh no! The XM vs Sirius debate. That's probably as bad as a Ford vs Chevy debate. LOL
XM started off much stronger than Sirius and it's only been in the past year that Sirius has started to attract more customers. XM is offered as an option on Chevy's and Sirius is the option at Ford when you buy new.
I've always had XM and after looking at the Sirius line-up I see so reason to change. Besides, once you buy the equipment for one you can't just switch over to the other.
i liked my xm, but i didnt LOVE it, i much more like my mp3 player.... i have an xm unit for sale if anyone wants it, its only for pioneer with xm controls, if u buy it ill install it for free... its easy...
and ont he second note, i have a 1500 watt amp and it didnt bother my 2000 ranger, but it did bother me, blowing ever sub i put on it
I have XM now and have had Sirius in the past. Both are pretty much the same in my book and from what I read there is talk of them combining. The only real reason I went to Sirius was that they would let you listen to the lineup on your PC for no extra charge and XM wouldn't. Now XM has that ability too I believe. Got plenty of extra hardware laying around for them. The antennas are the only thing that are interchangeable between the two. I have kept the same antenna with 1 Sirius unit and 3 XM units.
