Has anyone run into the problem of getting narrow brake shoes and drums from a parts supplier? I worked half the day to change my brakes and then discovered that the drums were too narrow and the brake shoes were 3/4's the width of the old ones... did ford change mid year on the brakes?
are you sure you got the shoes/drums for the FRONT, or did they give you the rears....you know the way these kids at the parts computer think...."ok, It's drums...must be for the rear, because all cars have disks up front."
to my knowledge the drums are all the same size for the front from 67-72, unless it may be different for a camper special or something, but I don't think so.
Sounds like you they gave you parts for a '65 - '66 or '67, and you have the front end of a '68 or later.
If I remember correctly, the '67 front end was the same '65 - '67, and it changed in '68 to wider shoes. Or, Ford just used up earlier parts. Who knows what happened. And, I could be wrong too.
Do you have a late '67? It may have been made with early '68 parts.
Or, someone changed it out somewhere along the line. The wider fronts are nicer than he narrow ones, that's for sure!

I take the old parts with me when I got for replacements to make sure that what I get is right. That works well when dealing with older vehicles like ours, some times the parts books don`t have a listing that far back.
I had a similar situation with my 1971 F250. Mine is the lightest duty F250. When I took the old front shoes to the auto part place, they did not have a listing for that width of shoe for 1971. However, when they checked the computer for 1970 F250's, it was listed.
I took my old shoes to the parts supplier and the guy at the counter found the right size right away, so it looks like banjopicker was right, the parts guy said they were from a '68.
By the way, Fomoko, are you in Winnipeg? Where do you get your parts? I've found Piston ring to be pretty much rockstars for helping me find the parts for my 67 F100

I am near Saskatoon and Clavet. I get most of my parts from Swift Filtration as they have the best prices on most parts and are great bunch of knowledgeable guys with good service. No hassle on returns even if it is my mistake. Some parts I buy at the Parts Source as they are on the east side of Saskatoon so it is quicker. Is Piston ring an independent parts store like Swift Filtration?

As far as I know, Fomoko, Piston Ring is a local Winnipeg chain, we only have 3 NAPA stores here but there is about 10 piston rings in the city. They're under the "Autovalue" banner as well, but I've found them to be awesome for finding older stuff, and so far everything has been in stock, wow.
Parts source, to my finding, is pretty expensive compared to the independents and, not that it matters, but arent they owned by Canadian Tire?

I have had good luck with NAPA on the older stuff, my 57 F350. I have heard that Partsource is owned by Canadian Tire and you are rite in saying that they is usually more $.
Sounds like you have 12" x 2 1/2" drums, standard non Camper Special were 12" x 2" shoes. Do I hear fade city with stopping empty above 70 mph empty?
Front and rear drums secured with three screws 2" x 12", drums mounted with hub Camper Special 2 1/2" x 12".

Beemer Nut
I didnt measure them, I got drums from a '68 and they fit like they were made for the truck, LOL... oh and my truck has never seen 70 MPH and I doubt it ever will, LOL...with 3.73 gears and a 3 speed 70 MPH is a pipe dream...No mounting screws either, they're held on by friction and the lug nuts. Was a bear of a time trying to seperate the hubs and drums though...38 years of rust
I must be alot more agressive, 68 CS, C-6, 3.54 with 32.5" tires, hell i'm in second to 85 mph. In third the motor starts to pull hard above 95 mph, tops out at 5,250 rpm's due to poor aerodynamics and a small motor (410). Speedo only goes to 100, that's pegged besides not accurate above 70 mph. Same motor in a 69 Flairside, 435 box, 4.10 same tires it pulled to 5,630 rpms, same speedo problem, only goes to 100. Stock 95 Discover is 105 mph, bigger motor now at 128 mph. Speed nut what can I say?

That's a lot of air you're pushing aside. I'm just imagining what happens to the poor guys in featherweight GEO Metros that you're passing.
