i have a 1982 f-250 4 4 with rattling calipers when driving over potholes, washboards etc...
does anyone know of a remedy to stop the noise, maybe a shim, anti-rattle device or a part i am missing? any help sure appreciated.
regards steve
With dual piston calipers there is a "z" spring that keeps the pads from rattling. At one time these were hard to get but should be available either alone or in a hardware kit at parts house and don't be suprised if they have to order it,in other words, don't let the guy tell you he can't get it and he aint gonna get it! The hardware kit will be your best bet to solve all rattling problems.

Phillip's probably got the best long-term fix. If you're looking for something to get you through til you can get the parts, I've used brake pad adhesive with good success. I say short-term cuz it seems to let loose after several months. Of course I did the lazy man's job and didn't actually disassemble the pads from the calipers to get the adhesive completly over the whole backside of the pad. I just squirted the stuff wherever I could between the caliper and the back of the pads while they were still on the truck.
Had the same problem w/ my '89 F250 4wd. Replace all 4 (2 per side) pins that hold the calliper on. Get them from the dealer... the others can be inferior quality.
