A %#@&%%@$% came out of a side street and wiped out the passenger side bedside body panel on my '78 F-150 Shortbed. I have found a new panel for a Longbed from LMC Truck, but they don't stock the panel for a shortbed. Any one know where I can get one?
I've got a short bed also. I have hunted high and low for the bed sides for 2 or 3 years and I haven't found them yet. I wonder if those long bed sides can be cut down?
Doc
Harry,
Yes, you can cut down the 8' bed sides. Early, last year I bought the last "Ford" drivers side panel(shortbed) from NPD, but they had no passenger side panels for a shortbed, NOS or aftermarket, I bought a long bed panel and my bodyman cut it down, all the extra legth is in front of the wheel well. Ensure you have a good bodyman. I did, thank god

P.S. I probably would have ended up spending some time in jail if I were in your shoes. By the time I would have got done with the &*%^$^%that hit you, I'm sure I would have been arrested. Not that I'm like that, but if it was my truck........well
Check ebay every once in a while. Good parts are few and far between but I am slowly stockpiling my garage to start the rebuild of my 78. So far I have found fenders, doors, seat, floor pans, lift kit, interior trim/molding pieces. My bed is completely shot so I am contemplating trying to find a whole bed or making a wood bed. Original beds look better but the prices people are asking for restorable beds is really making it hard for me to justify.
Ford Bronco,
There is another thread discussing the wonderful quality of LMC parts that is called How much longer for the 73 to 79's. You may want to take a look at the thread, and possibly post the above there also.
Doc
lmc's parts are very cheaply made they don't use the same thickness of metal they build everything out of 18 ga sheet metal or 20 gauge sheet metal the tailgates are for show only they would fold if you sat on them. it shows to with there stuff. i ordered a tailgate and it only weighed 28 lbs . the stock one weighs at least 65 and it came full of dents and was rusty and they said it was all normal and that i should learn to like it. that was the last time i bought stuff from them.
Gas hog,
Rusty???? Full of dents??? Learn to like it???
What kind of mess is that???
If you wanted rusty and dents, a trip to the U pull it would have been much cheaper. It looks like to me when a man orders a new part and pays for a new part....He should recieve a new part.
I'm sorry for your luck. Did you ever find a useable gate?
Doc
i ended up finding a great rust free tailgate of a 67 truck for 40.00 in a junkyard i was heading out after finding nothing and i put down my toolbox in the bed of a truck(to give my tired arm a break) and underneath a pile of carpet was a stashed tailgate complete with all hardware. in the lmc catalog in fine print it says, (are parts are imported from overseas and will not arrive in perfect condition after being sent around the world and you should expect to spend time fixing them and trimming them to fit your truck).
Expect to spend some time fixing and trimming????On a brand new tail gate???? I've heard some bad things about LMC before, and I've even seen a few bad things....but this takes the cake! I'll never order any thing from them if that's the way they do buiness.
I had realy good luck with Jeff's Bronco grave yard on parts I've ordered for my truck. You might try calling them next time you ned parts. I've also found that they are generaly a little cheaper than LMC also.
Doc
lmc also does not stock all the parts they buy from a supplier when you need a part then they sell at markup some of my parts came from other states and the supplier ships the part to you and they package stuff bad.they reuse old boxes from grocery stores they claim it is a attempt to save our trees. my order was shipped in a dole bananna (SP) box.
