U Joint replacement
After talking with a few more people, I am now 99% sure my u joints are the cause of my clanking truck. Now, I need some more info.
It is a 96 F150 XLT 4x4 with the 351. How do I check the u joints to make sure they are bad and need replacing?
And if they are the culprit, how do I replace them? I am on a tight budget, and it doesnt seem like it would be too terribly hard.

Get under there and move the driveshaft around. If there is any play in the joint, it needs to be replaced.
It's pretty easy to do. You can do it with a vise and a couple largish sockets. Search around for it, it's been discussed before.
