Hey guys,
On my '81 inline 6, the Dipstick is really loose. It just kinda moves around and when I go to check the oil, it comes plum off!!!! I noticed that something like a rubber gommet has been eaten away and I think that's what held it in place. I'm I right on this? What can I do about fixing this problem. There is a fair amount of oil that comes out after the truck sits for awhile.

Check the FORD dealer for the grommet by itself. You may have to buy the whole tube to get the seal with it? Also, with a "loose" fit tube, there should be a bracket to secure it to the engine,preventing any movement.

Appreciate the info once again. I'll check out the dealer for the grommet. From what I see, there is no bracket that supports the Tube to the engine. It just depends on the grommet for support I guess.
