Ford Kings, On my 75 250 with 460 there is a big canister sticking out the back side of the air filter. It is about the size and shape of an oil filter. Its always in the way when you want to remove the filter. I finally removed it and sealed up the hole. Can any of you guys tell me what that thing does?? Thanks, Don
I know what you are talking about, but don't know what it's for either. The local salvage yard had two early 70's lincolns with 460s that had this air cleaner too...
If it looks like a tomato juice can painted black, that is your vacuum cannister.
You need that to store a required amount of vacuum to runs things like
Cruise,A/C and Brakes.
Million, no that's not what they're talking about. I've seen it too and am also curious as to what it is. Check out the following link. There is a picture of the engine compartment that has both the blue oil-filter looking item mounted to the air cleaner -- the item of question. And the soup can looking black vacuum reservoir.
