I have an 87 F250 with a 460 and electric in-tank fuel pumps. It runs out of fuel when I switch tanks. Both tanks are full, the fuel pumps in both tanks are working, and the selector valve is new. The fuse is okay also.
If your engine is EFI, there should be a hi-pressure pump on the frame, along with the low-pressure pumps in the tank. Now,if you can run on one tank only, and both in-tank pumps are working, here is what to check: {1}No voltage to frame pump when selecting inoperative tank.{2}Kinked fuel line from inoperative tank to selector valve.{3}Defective selector switch or wiring.{4}Broken impeller on fuel pump in tank.

I have what I believe to be the same problem that you are having. Both tanks are full and when I switch from one tank to another it runs out of gas. I can then switch back and it still will not run. I have to bleed the mechanical switch located on the left frame just behind the high pressure fuel pump. I was having a fuel pump problem but misdiagnosed it and replaced the mechanical switch instead. Ever since I have been having this problem and haven't been able to figure it out yet. I believe that there must be a way of bleeding this switch that I don't know about but need to do.
