Engine Fan

Unfortunately this may be a long-winded post.

In 1979 my dad bought new, an F250 4x4 with a 351m. He owned it until 2001 when he sold it. The guy he sold it to decided he wanted to put a 390 in it and started a swap. He stopped partway through and decided to sell the truck. I bought the truck (I should have run away but sentimental value got the best of me) this April. I got the engine back from him (which was a 400), and although it only has about 30K on it, I'm going to rebuild it. That's another story.

I'm trying to acquire all the necessary parts to get going on this. Unfortunately, the previous owner wasn't too bright and lost a fair number of parts. I don't have an engine fan. My dad recalls that it was a 7blade fan. It had the super cooling with A/C.

The questions:
1. Can anyone confirm whether this was a 5 blade or a 7 blade fan?
2. Can anyone tell me the diameter of the fan?
3. Does anyone have part numbers?
4. I've been working with a good parts guy but we're not having much luck. He has many listings for 5 blade fans. From what he can tell most of the 7 blade fans were on the 77 and olders. He was able to come up with a 19 1/2" diameter fan with a D7TZ part number that had been superceeded with an E5TZ part number. This implies that the fan was used in years later than 77.

Any thoughts and/or comments?

Thanks!

Mine was not the original engine but had a 5 blade fan. I'm unsure of the diameter though. Do you currently have a radiator shround?

The original was a clutch type fan. The E5TZ (superceeded D7TZ number) part is also a clutch fan, but we're not sure it was on the 79's.

With the super cooling option there is a 7 blade fan that has a clutch.
I don't know where you would find it on a truck like ours....but I pirated mine off of an 83 model E150 van that had a 460 and C6. The only part number I can see on my fan is on the blades and it is DAT4-MA. My fan is 19" in diameter.

My '78 Ford, in its original configuration, contained a 7 blade fan with a fan clutch. The outside diameter was about 19". The motor was a 400 with air conditioning. I have seen parts catalogs that list the same part number for a fan clutch for a 77-79 ford with a 302, 351, and a 400 motor, providing they all have air conditioning. If your 79 came from the factory with an air conditioner, then it most likely contained a seven-blade fan with a fan clutch. I was only able to find a replacement seven-blade fan in good condition on e-bay for $10.00 in excellent shape.

Also, the part number I found is printed on every blade, So I don't know if the part # is for the blade or the fan, but is the only part number I can find on the 7-blade fan. It is D6TA-A2.

My fan is set up like Father doug's. The part number I mentioned in the previous post is on every single blade. I'm kind of like him....I don't know if it's the part number for the blade or the fan.
I have a good friend that deals in 73 to 79 Ford truck parts that told me the same thing Doug mentioned. Non A/C got 5 blade fans. A/C got 7 blade fans.
Frank, If you can find the 7 blade fan that is about 19" in diameter you should be in business. The clutch can be bought new at your local parts house. I also sent you a PM.

Were all the 19" diameter 7 blade fans the same in terms of clutch attachment and blade pitch?

Those aren't part numbers.

They are stamping numbers to identify the part.
