Need advice, Please Help!

Before I start i just wanted to say that I am new to the sight and i know that ya'll get these posts all the time. I did some searches, but didn't find what I was looking for. I would apperciate all ya'lls help. I have a '03 f-250 6.0 liter. I'm not really looking for big gains in power because the truck pulls all i need it to fine(cows, hay, tractors, dozier). What i need is something to add some fuel economy. I was getting 16.5-17mpg with this truck, but the engine wouldn't idle right so i took it to the dealership and the fixed the problem by reprogramming the computer. In doing so they cut me to 12.5-13.5mpg. I was unhappy, but they said that this was the factory fix and they couldn't undo it. I need some fuel mileage back and would appreciate your help. Thanks

How long ago was your truck re-flashed? There have been many cumulative updates in the last year or more. Some owners have reported gaining some mileage back with some of the later calibrations. There is no guarantee though.

I will advise you that there is another recall coming which will be an emissions recall that involves the replacement of a sensor and an calibration update. This recall is sure to include at least 2003 and 2004 models. I do have better details but I don't want to spread any information until it becomes official and I see it in black and white. Until then, ease up on the throttle as best you can!

Well, mine has gotten some reasonable mileage.. 05 C/C, S/B, 4x4.. About 17 on the last weeks trip dirt bike’n with a light load and some A/C.. The heavier trips will be next month for a more 'accurate' test.. I run the Predator in the 65HP range and got the extra HP with no lose of MPG.. A tune of 45/towing might help with not only some added HP, but may increase MPG as well until Ford can get a better mileage flash into play to deliver use into the high teens range!! Or more Would be nice.. I had it all calculated out, if I got 1-2 MPG increase in fuel mileage/savings it would offset the cost of the tuner fairly quick.. Justified the purchase anyway 'Plus' the diagnostic feature is a bonus for those without a shop scan tool.

Welcome to FTE!!

Re-flashing is a "re-write" or enhancements of the trucks/cars Computers.. PCM/TCM/FICM ect.. P=Powertrain, T=Transmission control. F=Fuel injection Control.. The computers have a writetable/rewriteable memory that allows Ford to make running/driveability, shifting ect. changes and enhancements.. Enabling them (or Predator/SCMT ect.) to make corrections or add on programming for a better 'hopefully' operating system .. Flashing is a norm among most makes/models with OBD II, and not just to these specific vehicles.. OBD II stands for "On Board Diagnostics" that came into play since the mid 90's.. ..
