Hey guys, need some ideas on where to mount tweeters for a set a Rockford Fosgate Punch P152s components. These come with 4 tweeters (2 per side). You can leave them in place over the woofer cone, or mount them separately with the included surface- or wedge-mounts. You can even leave 1 tweeter on the woofer cone and mount the 2nd elsewhere. I have even thought about putting a tweeter up at the the side view mirror area and then putting 2 tweeters in the middle of the dash close to the window. Sort of as a center channel. Just not sure how it would sound.
Any ideas are greatly appreciated.
They say you should have your woofer and tweeters mounted at approximately the same distance apart. This being said, I like the kick panel idea, but then you could possibly hurt the component set.. I haven't ever heard of anybody having problems with it though. I once thought about getting pods for the a-pillar and mounting a tweeter in that, I think it would look cool and sound pretty good if there was a way to turn down the volume to the tweets.
I installed some tweets at each top outer corner of the windshield. I turned the level down on the amp a little for thise channels. It sounds great. I tried the center channel speaker one time, with a digital 5.1 surround system. It was installed in a regular cab truck, so the placement of the speakers wasn't ideal, but the center speaker seemed to confuse the stereo effect of the music. Does that make sense? lol
I think I understand what you're talking about lol. But I think you would only get a full 5.1 sound surround system with Super Audio CD's. Otherwise you're only putting a center channel to make it louder. I think in a kick panel, the side of the door kind of by the handle, or the A-pillar pod.
Thanks for the replies, steve I follow what u r saying about the stereo effect. I think I`m going to put the 5.25 speakers in the door and then use some double sided tape to test place the tweeters in various spots. I like the a-pillars for 1 tweeter on each side, but need to figure out where to put the other tweeter. These components came with a total of 4 tweeeters. Might eve put 1 tweeter on the 5.25 speaker & the other on the a-pillar.
As I was driving my grandma's van (1997 Dodge Caravan with Infinity Sound System) I listened to the sound in it, and it had good SQ as the way the speakers were put in. The way they put them in there, there is the front door speakers with tweets but also on the dash facing up there are full-ranges that hit the windshield and come back your way. What about mounting the tweeters on the top of the dash so they deflect off your windshield? I don't know how your dash looks though, but just another thought.
i've heard of people putting the tweeters in the air condition vents, so it hides it and gives you direct sound, i have thought about trying it when my shoulder heals. let me know what you end up doing. good luck
Thanks for the input RomerB2, I will definetly give that a try. I`m gonna try to get this done this weekend, If I remember I will take some pics and post them when finished, If you guys are interested.
Bootros, I had a set of Boston Acoustics in a 91 grand am set up that way, the midrange mounted in the stock location & I bought small L brackets & put the tweeters in the a/c ducts. It worked out really nice. Good sound & hidden from sight. I`ll have to look at the vents in my truck.
what model alpine do you have? if you have time alignment run them active and put a set of tweets in the sail pillars behind the mirror and aim them at the rear view mirror crossed over around 8k. put the other tweet with the mid and cross it over from about 2k to 8k if possible. trust me on this one
Tweeter Placement can be very tricky it all comes down to how you like your music to sound. I have found if you mount a set of tweeters on either side of your A-pillar about half way up, facing them towards the windshield. You can experiance sound which seems to come from just underneath the rear veiw mirror. The only downfall I have experienced with this is you tend to loose a little of your stereo imaging. If you want to keep your stereo imaging. I would recommend installing them on your dash in the far coners either faceing the windshield which will force the sound out to you or face them out aiming them towards yourself in the driver seat or one to yourself the other to the passenger seat. Tweeters are very directional so placement is key. To get the most out of them I wouldn't recommend putting them anywhere that will abstruct the sound such as in a A/C vent or behind you.
