So Walmart is getting MC back? I guess that's good, I am down to 60 quarts and 18 filters I didn't know how long the MC would be missing from their shelves, so I stocked up. That's the only thing I ever buy there anyway.
Our local Autozone has MC 5W20 in stock. They used to get $1.79/quart, 27 cents higher than Walmart. Once it disappeared from Walmart's shelves, AZ jacked the price to $2.29...and I think either $2.39 or $2.49 now.
How much do the dealers sell it for? Couldn't be anymore than AZ. Of course I may have too much faith in them, they might get 3 buck a quart for it
I guess Ford pulled it initially because the profit margins weren't high enough. It will be interesting to see the price when it goes back on sale, I paid $1.80 or so in the past at Wally World. And speaking of that, I know very few want to say they do it, kinda like dating a fat chick, everyone does it but no-one wants to admit it, but with 5 kids at home, we have to shop WalMart. It's bad, it's scary, but when you spend $500 a week for food, saving $100 a week is big.
i wonder how much oil at $60,00 a barrel has to do with the price of per qt. i'm useing castrol full syntec and most likely will stay with. but just being able to buy a mc oil filter helps for my v10.
The local walmart made a big presentation of fram filters as the new de facto choice, it'll be interesting to watch them backpedal. Can't wait!- $2.69 at the dealer.
If anyone has a farm & tractor type store around, look for oil there. I've been buying Phillips66 semi-synthetic 5W-20 for $1.39/qt at Atwoods. Unfortunately, they only carry Fram & Pennzoil filters, so I also have to make a trip to either Autozone or Napa too.
The WalMart by me has Castrol simi syn 5w20 and full syn. The full syn is $20 for 5 qts. No sign of Motocraft stuff yet. I did buy 6 filters before they vanished. The wife's Tribute uses them too so they won's last long.
One thing I did notice you have to be quick with the drain pan. The first time I changed the oil it came shooting out. Over shot the pan. Must be the additional hight of the 4x4 and the thin oil. Yesterday when I canged it again I thought I was prepared. Nope. Missed again. Guess that's what rags are for.
Since we all are incredibly **** about the frequency of our oil changes, I have no reservations about running Castrol GTX 5w-20, good old fashioned dino juice.
When/if wally world gets MC semi-syn again I'll probably switch back. Snaked the last 20 or so 820s's though
On a side note, I was a staunch supporter concerning full synthetics, I just don't see the benefits any longer when adhering to strict and frequent changes.
What's funny is I never had an oil related engine failure .........whether running dino juice in the early days, later running full syn, changing to the semi-syn and now full circle back to straight dino.
i did the same snaked up 6 at one store went to the other and grabed 7 more.hope they get them back the dealer wants 6.98 each filter.
you have a good point on the many oil changes and dyno joice, it's just some people don't believe in changing and cause them selves a sludge problem. i work in a dealer so castrol full only costs me 1.50 a qt. from our bulk pump. if i had to pay full boat i would just run castrol gtx or mc what ever is easier to get.

The newer motors call for 5-20. I don't think they changed the motors , just made the oil better and found the 5-20 gives slightly better fuel economy. I would use what the manual says for your 2000 V10. Hondas call for 5-20, Toyotas call for 5-30. I have both in the family and they get what the manufacturer recommends.
The newer Ford 5-20 oil requirement is a different spec oil than the Ford 5-30 oil requirement. If your under warranty, then use the spec 5-20. Most of the newer 5-20 oils will meet this spec but check it to make sure for warranty puposes. I know the Mobil-1 does meet it.
If anyone has a dollar tree in your area, check them out, I reluctantly went with my wife in one, you know, full of yard sale stuff, everything for $1. I found a whole case of MC oil filters, yes 820s, and a bunch of MC Oil. I asked the clerk, was all this still $1 each, she said yes everything is $1, so wow, I loaded up a cart with filters and oil... Now I don't complain so much when the wife wants to go in the Dollar Tree
