The FX4 versions have Rancho 'Ford spec' shocks and transfer case/fuel tank skid plates. I don't know what the 4X4 Off Road sticker means other than it's a 4X4. Maybe it has the skid plates option?
Take a look at the shock body, it is stamped "Motorcraft". Look at your window sticker too, it says "Rancho branded" shocks. They appear to simply be painted in Rancho colors. Save to money and go buy the real ones.
They are manufactured by Rancho to Ford specifications which is a softer shock than any version Rancho makes. If I was ordering a new truck, I would skip the FX4 package and just order the skid plates option though!
That's a good question. My '00 has 4x4 offroad stickers. I think the FX4 package didn't become available until a later year? To my knowledge the 4x4 offroad stickers are only that, stickers.
I have an '00 with the "4x4 offroad" stickers and all it is is a skid plate under the transfer case and another long one underneath the tank. It's not just stickers. When they went to the FX4, they added the shocks to the package.
FX4 package was available in '03. The 4x4 Offroad option was the addition of a skid plate over the fuel tank and steering damper. The FX4 package is basically the same thing but with the Rancho "branded" shocks. New name for almost the same package, that's marketing for you.
My '05 without FX4 just has 4X4 sticker(I got skid plate pkg). I think that's what you get without fx4 package whether or not you get skid plates. 4x4 offroad is the older version of fx4, my brother has that on his f-150.
i bought two FX4 decals(Ford OEM) for $23 each and a transfer case skidplate $54 Ford wholesale cost. I got it through my local auto body guy, I am going to get a gas tank skidplate as well and the Rancho RX9000 adj shocks with in-cab controller and make my own FX4, my truck currently is an 02 F-350 4x4 lariat
Toy Hauler, is your truck stock height. My truck is getting lifted right now and I have the RS9000X's on it. I can't use them with the lift. They have about 10K miles on them, so if you want them, make an offer. I think, I have the controller in my garage, not sure on that. I can't remember if I gave it to a buddy of mine before I deployed. I'll be home at the end of July if your interested.
