This last weekend I went over Monarch Pass here in Colorado its around 13,000 feet.I was pulling my fifth wheel at 12,500 lbs.My truck is a 2004 F350 w/auto. 4x4 crew cab and while it was going up the pass (I was out of OT) the transmission started making a whinning noise (a high pitched noise). Some times it would come and go,it shifted fine and ran fine.I am just wondering what the high pitched whine could be and is this hurting the truck????????????

Reason: spelling
Mine whined probably the same way as my rpm's reached 4000. I turned off the ac and the next time I hit the same rpm, no whine. However, my truck did start to overheat (outside temp 96).
I think I would go with the fan theory, the first time mine came on it scared me. Mine very rarely comes on at all, mine is a gasser but still it is a distinctive whine when it comes on.
