Upper Intake Cleaning
There is a machine called "motor vac" that has a wand to insert into the intake and dispenses highly concentrated cleaner that will remove disolvable sludge. The machine also back flushes the fuel system and pressure cleans the injectors. It is beneficial to have this service performed. You will have to search for a shop that has this type of machine.

I wouldn't sweat it. If you have enough crud in there to make a difference with cleaning it, you got bigger problems to worry about. Gas milage and horsepower will actually go down if you do clean it. That thin layer of carbon inside the intake has a similar effect that porting and polishing has.
It is easy to take it on and off however. Watch the vacuum lines routed at the rear of the intake, and note recommended torque and torque sequence. I believe it is center out on the sequence, can't recall torque rating.
For the other fellas post, my 89 F-150 302 did not have teflon coatings on the throttle body. I believe that didn't happen for a year or two, and that may only be single tb's like the mustang and crown vic's. Either way, if you lose the teflon coating, you havent lost much. According to some, its actually a benefit to lose it.
Generally speaking, cleaning fuel injectors is "snake oil". May give you peace of mind, but its actually only neccessary if you have had contaminates in your fuel system that are dissolvable by the FI cleaner solvent. Remember injectors on EFI 302 motors run at about 40 psi or better, so not a whole lot of contaminates can get caught up in there.
