hey guys, i havre recently found a 96 f250 lwb 4x4 at a chebbie dealership. it has the 5.8l, auto, and 98k on it. is there anything mechanical that normally goes wrong at these miles. or is there anything that would be problematic after 100k? more so reliability? thanx
$10,900. its a great deal i think. i have a crappy 02 dodge 1500. hate it. wont buy another. anyways the only thing wrong wiht that ford is that the paint is scrathy. but paint isnt that big of a deal to me.
well the kbb is a lil under what they's askin. bu wiht all the neg equity on my truck its a striaght up trade almost. so...do those trucks use the c6 trannies, or do they have a different kind. also what transfer case do they come wiht?
10,900???? holy cow. I have the f-150 setup with the 5.8 and mine kelly blue books in at around 4,000ish. This better be a fancy truck with all the bells and whistles. These are great trucks, but there are better deals out there than that unless you live in califonia. (regional inflation)
yea kbb for that truck is $7790.00, btu i guess the dealership has gotta make a profit..i really dont care that much about the price. its the best deal ive seen around here(knoxville) for a truck. and im also in a hurry to get rid of my dodge.
if money's not a big issue, and the truck seems legit, I'd pounce on it if it's a good one. if it's nothing out of the ordinary, I'd shop around and find something for the price is should be.
yea ive been shoppin around 4 a while. 1st REAL truck thats caught my eye. sumthin did catch my attention while lookin around underneath it. at the front of the frame it has 2 thick plates bolted/welded to the frame, and they just hang. i doubt they are stck because of the radged edge from where they look to be torched. any ideas? my 1st thought was a snow plow mount??...
Could be a plow mount if vertical or some jury rigged skid plate mounts? My F250 has over 253,000 on her and still gets the job done. Drive it, check the 4wd thoroughly for operation, do the normal oil inspection, oil cap for whitish residue, etc. How do the tires look? How does the tansmission fluid look, bright red and free of entrained material?
I hate dealers, be careful. Is there anything that goes wrong..yes, people beat the truck then trade it in.
I like going to dealer lots on a Sunday, hopefully they are closed and you can walk on the lot without being arrested. I would get underneath the truck and take a long look at it, take some friends with you too. Let them pick on the truck for you. It is nice to look at a truck w/o dealers standing around.
Try to tell us what style truck,is it an XL,or XLT and special packages listed.
You'll have to drive it of course, listen to the engine with the windows up and radio off. You really want to hear a nice even sound and be able to feel nice smooth shifts. Make sure you know how each shift feels, count second, third and fourth gears and back down. If the salesperson is cutting your testdrive short, then walkaway...you need to run that truck hard, at sixty MPH, and back it up,try the brakes, and run the 4WD.
If you can, check out the truck on a cooler rainy day, if any vehicle I ever had was gonna give me headaches it was on a cold wet morning.
People sometimes get lucky and know this is the right truck for them. That is what happened to me 9 years ago. I found my used 92 in Nov. 95 and I bought the truck the day I found it. I got lucky, the truck has been the most reliable ride I ever owned.
i wish i had an extra $3100. to make a dealer happy. that money will buy you a whole lot of fixing on an almost 10 year old truck. it is your money, but why are you asking for our opinion if you already made up your mind?
For that price I'd have them throw in an extended bumper to bumper warranty or something. Particularly one that covers replacing oil pans <grin>
They always are high, they expect you to deal them down and look like you saved alot. Don't be afraid to negotiate, they expect it and when you don't its just more money in their pocket. Remember, there is no one else looking at this truck... its still there isnt it?
Man.I'll sell you my 95 F-350 XLT 4X4 with only 55,000 miles a 460 and a plow for $10,000.Nice clean, well maintained truck-save $1,000,half the miles and you can make $ plowing if it snows there too!!LOL--Ah well..good luck!!
